Help stop the loss of sight this Christmas

Colin lost his sight, his independence, and the farm that had been in his family for generations because of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Today, his three daughters are living with the reality that they too may face vision loss in the future.

Your Christmas gift today could help fund vital research into better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for macular disease.

"Colin has lost his vision, but as a family, we’ve lost a man who was so independent, able to turn his hand to anything."

Colin was a second-generation farmer who loved his life on the family farm. More than 20 years ago, he was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

As his vision deteriorated, Colin was forced to give up farming and eventually sell the property that had been in his family for generations. He lost not only his sight, but also much of the independence he treasured.

The impact has extended beyond Colin. His wife, Pam, has become his full-time carer, and his three daughters have also been diagnosed with early-stage AMD, highlighting the urgent need for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

While there is currently no way to reverse the progression of AMD, your support can help bring hope to families like Colin's. By funding groundbreaking research, we can accelerate the search for new treatments and move closer to a future where fewer people face the devastating impact of vision loss.

Why your support matters

Macular Disease Foundation Australia is committed to funding research that could one day lead to better treatments and future cures for macular disease.

With thanks to our generous donors, 44 research projects have already been funded, helping researchers better understand macular disease and develop new approaches to treatment.

This Christmas, your generosity could help fund more research projects that help stop the loss of sight for future generations to come.

Your gift helps through:

Support Services and Care

Through our free Eye Connect support services, one-on-one peer connection, and practical guidance, no one has to face the disease alone.

Advocacy

Representing the voice of the macular disease community, we fight to keep treatments and support services affordable and accessible for every Australian who needs it.

Research

As Australia's largest non-government funder of macular disease research, we fund scientists working toward better treatments and a world where far fewer Australians lose their sight.

Awareness

Our national awareness campaigns help Australians protect their sight by making them aware of the risks and how they can protect their sight.

Will you make a Christmas gift today to help stop the loss of sight?

Your kind donation could make all the difference for families like Colin's.
